
Pedro Rebelo,
born in 1972 Viseu, Portugal. Pedro is a composer/digital
artist based in Edinburgh. His approach to music making
is informed by the use of improvisation and interdisciplinary
structures. He has been involved in several collaborative
projects with visual artists and has created a large
body of work exploring the relationships between architecture
and music in creating interactive performance and installation
environments. This includes a series of commissioned
pieces for soloists and live-electronics which take
as a basis the interpretation of specific acoustic spaces.
In
the duo laut with saxophonist Franziska Schroeder he
investigates the extension of interfaces and control
in interactive performance practices.
Pedro 's
work ranges from electroacoustic music on tape, to music
for instruments and digital media, and interactive installations.
Works such as "Aquas Liberas" for Tenor Saxophone
and Digital Media have been performed at various international
events (Sound Practice, CADE2001, CIRCUS2001, London
Sinfonietta's State of the Nation). Other performances
include Futura, ICMC and Synthèse Bourges and
broadcasts by Deutschlandfunk and BBC Radio 3. Part
of the Hörgänge Festival at Vienna's Konzerthaus,
Pedro has recently worked on a digital media performance
for a multi-disciplinary event dedicated to the work
of Portuguese modernist poet Fernando Pessoa .
Pedro has
been musical assistant for electroacoustic festival
Música Viva since 1999. He has recently been
awarded a PhD in composition from the University of
Edinburgh and is currently a full-time specialist tutor
in digital design at this institution's Department of
Architecture.
