Emas

Thirty years ago today (29th January) Sonic Arts Network, or EMAS as it was then called was founded in the front room of Simon Emmerson's house in West London. To celebrate, we created a special edition of our members eNewsletter with the header, footer and introduction from the very first EMAS newsletter which was put together by typewriter, glue and cellotape, photocopied and sent to members.

InsideOut: A New CD curated by Andrew Kötting

Written by David Rogerson Monday, 01 December 2020

InsideOut: a psyche and its geography charts the inscape of one of Britain’s most celebrated artists and experimental film makers, Andrew Kötting. This CD and accompanying publication mirrors the ‘highly idiosyncratic’ style he has become known for; experimenting with format, texture and sound to “transport an audience to a place...where possibly they’ve never been before”.

This CD is a soundtrack. Self-contained dramas that coagulate into the shifting and amorphous structure of Kötting’s psyche-ever present in his own work. Contributions from film makers, poets, artists, musicians, friends and family create something beyond just a collection of music chosen from personal taste, but a document of an artist’s life.

The CD is out now and costs only £12 (rrp £15). You can buy it from our online shop .

We are changing flyer

After a positive vote by Sonic Arts Network members earlier this year in favour of creating a new organisation, Sonic Arts Network legally merged last month with the British Music Information Centre, Contemporary Music Network and Society for the Promotion of New Music, creating a landmark new organisation, Sound and Music.

What is Sound and Music?

Sound and Music will be a forceful and passionate advocate for new and innovative work and the UK's first national development agency of international standing for sound and music. Working in partnership with practitioners and organisations throughout the UK, Sound and Music will enable more people than ever before to create, discover and experience new music and sound across genres.

What will Sound and Music do?

Live Events: We will showcase the most exciting British and international new music and sound though a fantastically diverse programme of live events across the UK.

Information and Resources: You'll be able to discover new music and sound though the sector's most comprehensive UK events listing service, through our collection of contemporary scores and recordings, and through publications, downloads and an interactive online network.

Virtual Venue and Online Community: soundandmusic.org will be an exciting creative space, the entrance point to new music and sound in the UK, and a major new community hub connecting people, sound and knowledge.
