TRACK 1 | IAIN ROSS | WISH-YOU-WERE-HERE | 1 MINUTE
TRACK: Given that a picture postcard is a limited medium for communication I decided to impose limitations upon a sonic postcard also. These were a limit of one minute’s duration and the use of only one stereo file in the composition of the piece - no multi-tracking. Only the words ’wish’, ’you’, ’were’, ’here’ were used as sound sources, recorded onto a DAT and then into a computer. These were then processed using Sonic Foundry’s ’Soundforge’ software – a stereo wave editor.

TRACK 2 | NEIL KACZOR| INTERSTICES | 2 MIN 48 SECONDS
TRACK: This piece was originally created in 1995 and remixed in 1999. The choice of the title came from a review by Kathy Acker, of a collection of poems by Paul Buck: "All day I’ve been thinking of ‘interstices: interstices of the night, the grid where (in blackness) you can’t perceive connections so everything is the holes of the grid, things just as they are, holes." From this evocative imagined landscape came the main stimuli of the piece in terms of form, texture and musical events. This is the first of three movements.

TRACK 3 | SIMON VINCENT | COMMA | 2 MINS 59 SECONDS
BIOG: Simon Vincent (b. 1967) began studying electroacoustic composition with Denis Smalley in Norwich in 1986, and has resumed those studies since his return to London in 1993. He has worked in a variety of musical settings as both composer and performer. These include Dr Struckoff, the electroacoustic trio Vincent (+ Kubryk Townsend, Russ Morgan), the electroacoustic trio STIRFRY, hip-hop group DEF TEX, jazz artists Art Farmer and Pete Jacobsen, LTJ Bukem's COOKIN' RECORDS, fashion designer Shelley Fox, choreographer Colin Poole and the improvisation trio VHF (Simon Vincent, Graham Halliwell, Simon H. Fell), whose debut album is released by New York record label Erstwhile to critical acclaim. Simon composes and performs regularly in order to explore new musical relationships and languages, performing his own electroacoustic compositions and improvisations at events around the world. He has been regularly awarded commissions for compositional work, and has twice received touring grants from the Arts Council of England for electroacoustic improvisation projects. In 1997 he established the record label 'visionofsound' and is currently studying for a PhD at City University under Dr Simon Emmerson.
TRACK 4 | MICHAEL EDWARD BOLTON | REMOTE | 1 MIN 28 SECONDS
TRACK 5 | PETER CUSACK AND CHARLES HAYWARD | DEPFORD GRID SUBSTATION | 2 MINS 21
TRACK: Depford grid electricity sub station is situated right next to the Thames near Greenwich, London. At low tide there is a small pebble beach, a special and hidden place.

TRACK 6| THEODORE LOTIS | LE GRAIN DE BRUXELLES | 2MINS 50 SECONDS

TRACK: The first image I had from Brussels was the enormous cranes in the centre of the city. Every time I was looking at them, I had the impression of a silent choreography under the sky. This image, as well as a text by the painter Yannis Psychopaidis concerning Brussels, Delvaux and the painting "La chute d’Icare", are the components of the piece. "Le Grain de Bruxelles" is a symbolic description of the every day life in Brussels. Different plans and images are represented by different sonic spaces and dynamics. The work was created in the studio of "Musiques & Recherches", Ohain, Belgium.
