30/31 May and 01 June
The Drama Studio, University of Sheffield

Composing - Performing - Listening

The annual conference aims to offer a forum for Sonic Arts Network members and others to share ideas through performance of works, panel discussions, guest presentations and informal meetings. This year the Conference focuses on ideas and practice in acousmatic art. With the finest new work from UK based artists, including International Prize winning pieces from this years Bourges Festival, the weekend is a rare opportunity to discover the current state of British sonic art.

The weekend presents five concerts of acousmatic and electroacoustic music over a specially constructed loudspeaker orchestra in the drama studio, a 150-seat theatre in the centre of Sheffield. Each work will be preceded by a short introduction by its creator. In addition, works submitted to our call by Sonic Arts Network members which have not been selected for concert performance will be exhibited in a listening room in the Drama Studio. These works can be heard over the weekend and will be performed over a four channel, quadraphonic sound system or on headphones. Artists whose work features in the Listening Room will gather to talk about their work at a special session over the weekend.
