Call for Papers

Research Papers Submissions

On the final day of Expo the Interdisciplinary Centre for Computer Music Research (ICCMR) at the University of Plymouth will host the Expo conference; a day of sonic art related papers and research presentations. This year we encourage submissions orbiting the themes of:

  • Low tech approaches to high tech sound
  • Low tech-mediated creativity in sonic and music design
  • High tech-mediated creativity in sonic and music design
  • Hardware and software bending/hacking
  • Live generative audio: aesthetic and technical considerations
  • Sonic interfaces: human-human, human-sound machine and sound machine-sound machine
  • Immersive sonic environments: music is the choreography

The guest speaker on this day of research presentations will be Professor Leigh Landy. Professor Landy is Research Chair in Contemporary Music and Director of the Music, Technology and Research Group (MTI) at Leicester De Montfort University. He is also editor of the Organised Sound international journal of music and technology. Much of his work takes place in a cross-artist context. For example, he is Artistic Director of Idée Fixe – Experimental Sound and Movement Theatre.

Proposals for the conference should be in the form of a one-page abstract reporting research or practical/creative work (including work in progress). Presenters should plan for 20 minutes presentation time and a further 10 minutes discussion time will be allowed. Papers will be reviewed by at least two independent reviewers who are experts in the topic of the proposal. Selected authors will be invited to submit a full paper for publication in the proceedings to be published by Liquid Press.
